Miss Havisham And Estella In Films And TV Series

Florence Reed and Jane Wyatt

Florence Reed played Miss Havisham and Jane Wyatt played Estella in the 1934 film adaptation directed by Stuart Walker for Universal Pictures. Jack P. Pierce was the makeup artist and Otto Leaderer and William Ely were his assistant makeup artists. Margaret Donovan was the hair stylist. What I've noticed, this was the only film where Miss Havisham wasn't wearing a white wedding dress.

Martita Hunt and Jean Simmons

Cineguild Production company released a Great Expectations film in 1946 with Martita Hunt as Miss Havisham and Jean Simmons as Estella. David Lean directed it, and George Blacker and Ernest Gasser were the makeup artists.

Margaret Leighton and Sarah Miles

Joseph Hardy directed and Robert Fryer directed of Great Expecations film in 1974. Miss Havisham was played by Margaret Leighton and Estella by Sarah Miles.

Joan Hickinson and Patsy Kensit / Sarah Jane Varley

In 1981, Julian Amyes directed a Great Expectations mini series for BBC. There are 13 episodes (1 season) and Betty Letts produced it. The role of Miss Havisham was played by Joan Hickinson, Patsy Kensit played younger and Sarah Jane Varley played older Estella. Gwen Arthy was the makeup artist.

Charlotte Rampling and Justine Waddell

Charlotte Rampling played Miss Havisham, and Justine Waddell played Estella in the 1999 film addaptation. It was directed by Julian Jarrold and produced by Rebecca Eaton, Melanie Howard, David Snodin and Michael wearing for BBC. Fran Needham was the makeup designer and the makeup artists were Eve Wignall and Nicola Mathews.

Gillian Anderson and Izzy Meikle - Small/Vanessa Kirby 

The 2011 Great Expectations TV mini-series had 3 episodes. It was directed by Brian Kirk and produced by Rebecca Eaton, Michas Kotz, George Ormond and Anne Pivcevic for BBC and Masterpiece Theatre. Gillian Anderson got to play Miss Havisham, Izzy Meikle- Small younger and Vanessa Kirby older Estella. The makeup designer was Kirstin Chalmers and the makeup artist were Nicky Lissner, Adele Firth,Roo Maurice; and Darlene Forrester, Luisa Ridge and Sian Wilson, who were hairstylists too along with Luca Saccuman. Kristyan Mallet and Michael Byrne were incharge of prostetics, Chris Lyons for special effects teeth.
