Hairstyles changed a lot during the 19th century, and I wasn't sure which one to choose my Miss Havisham look. I wanted to keep it in the early or mid century hairstyles. I started my research from the early 1800s, slowly towards the end of the 1850s.
I really like the idea of tight curls framing the face, and I think that an early 19th century hairstyle would look good on my partner, as she has short fringe. But at the same time I like how hairstyles became more elaborate towards the 1850s/60s and the curls became looser and lower, rather than the tight ringlets around the forhead. Comparing different hairstyles, I've noticed that even if the fringe weren't short and curly, they were still shaped around the face to frame it. I've decided to create some ideas on paper for each, and then see what works best with my make up design and what I could recreate best.

If I were to create this hairstyle, first I'd make a big topknot at the crown of the head. Then curl the rest of the hair with smaller tongs, creating looser curls than in the hairstyles above.

Curled lock of hair on each side - to frame the face. Middle parting and a braid going accross the head. Rest of the hair pulled back, in a bun.

Hairstyle no.1
This is an early Victorian hairstyle. Curls framing the face and the rest of the hair in a high top knot.

Hairstyle no.2
A ringlet and two tight curts on each side, framing of the face. Rest of the hair in a big top knot.
Hairstyle no.3
Here the hair at the crown of the head is curled, creating a top knot, and little ringlets framing the face from one ear to another.

Hairstyle no.4
This hairstyle is almost the same as the first one, but here I wanted to add more ringlets to frame the face and to get more of a 'messy' curly look, as I've seen in some portraits as I was doing my research. And again, rest of the hair in a top knot.

Hairstyle no.5
This hairstyle was inspired by the image from the detail of a fashion plate (1810). From what I could gather there is a braid at the back. A middle parting, and five curls on each side; three ringlets and two longer curls.

Hairstyle no.6
This one is exactly the same as the hairstyle above, but I added a bun at the back which, I think, makes the hairstyle look better. But probably the bun would have to be a hair piece because there is no way the hairstyle could be created exactly like in this hair chart without one.

Hairstyle no.1
Middle parting, hair at the top of the head smooth, quite flat, with two tight curls on each side. Rest of the hair pulled back in a low bun.

Hairstyle no.2
This is a very simple hairstyle, I took my inspiration from the 'Woman with Lace Collar' painting by Jozef Borsos (image above). The hairstyle consists of a middle parting and having all of the hair pulled back in a low bun, but still keeping that frame-shaped look at the front.
Hairstyle no.3
If I were to create this hairstyle, first I'd make a big topknot at the crown of the head. Then curl the rest of the hair with smaller tongs, creating looser curls than in the hairstyles above.

Hairstyle no. 4
I really like the waves that they started adding in their hairstyles in the late 1850s, and it looks very romantic. For this hairstyle I'd curl 3 sections on each side and create the waves and then braid the hair at the back and twist it into a bun.

Hairstyle no.5
I added a braid on both sides of the face, each pinned in a top knot at the back.
Hairstyle no. 6
Two very tight, long curls on each side of the face and a big low bun at the back.

Haistyle no.7
Here I'd section front and back, then curl the front creating 5 tight curls on each side. The rest of the hair would be braided and then twisted into a low bun.
Hairstyle no. 8
This hairstyle is almost the same as the 3rd one, but with a big top knot.

Hairstyle no.9
Curled lock of hair on each side - to frame the face. Middle parting and a braid going accross the head. Rest of the hair pulled back, in a bun.
