Alexander F. "Beau" Godefoy was the owner of a beauty salon in Paris, France. He wanted to create a machine to allow women to dry their hair faster. Taking his inspiration from a vacuum cleaner, In 1890, he invented the first hair dryer that could dry hair in salons in 1890. The hair dryer was made out of a metal bonner that was attached to a chimney pipe of a gas stove and could blow hot air onto the head. It was not portable and due to its size, it wasn't possible to use at home.
