This would be my first out of three different ideas for Estella's character. I'd use one of these hairstyles if I choose to create her at the age of 9 - when Pip came to play with her. Here are some photographs I found researching hairstyles that were common for young girls in the mid Victorian era; 1840s -1860s. Compared to their mothers, little girls would usually have their hair loose, curled or braided (sometimes both). Also, they didn't really have short fringe. The fringe the same lenght as the rest of the hair, usually pinned up, probably so the hair wouldn't be in their faces.

Hairstyle no.2
Hair smooth at the top, I'd use a serum (gel, oil etc.) to make it looking like that as different oils were very popular hair product in the 19th century. The rest of the hair would be culrled; tight big curls.

Hairstyle no.3
Originally, there were supposed to be curls on the sides, but looking at the drawing now, it almost looks like fishtail braids. Middle parting and a braid a braid going accross the head - could even be a hair piece. Queen Victoria made braided hair bands popular.

Fringe pulled back, pinned at the back, keeping the middle parting. Rest of the hair loose, wavy.
Hairstyle no.5
Middle parting, fringe pinned on the sides, above the ears. Rest of the hair loose, wavy.
Hairstyle no.6
This one is very similar to the hairstyles above; middle parting, fringe pinned on each side and wavy hair.
